Actor Andrew Garfield recently opened up about the loss of his mother, Lynn Garfield, during a touching conversation with the beloved muppet Elmo. While promoting his latest film, We Live in Time, a heartfelt video of their exchange was shared on Elmo and Sesame Street’s official Instagram account.
In the video, Elmo asked Garfield how he was feeling, to which the actor candidly replied, “I’m just thinking about my mom today. She passed away not too long ago, and you know, I just miss her a lot.” Garfield’s mother passed away from pancreatic cancer in 2019, and he spoke about the profound impact her loss has had on him.
Garfield reflected on how his sadness has become a form of connection to his mother, saying, “Sadness is kind of a gift. It’s kind of a lovely thing to feel in a way, because it means that you really loved somebody when you miss them. And when I miss someone, when I miss my mom, I remember all the cuddles I used to get from her. All the hugs I used to get from her. It makes me feel close to her when I miss her, in a strange sort of way.”
The conversation also included a touching moment when Garfield revealed that Elmo was his mother’s favourite muppet. In response, Elmo warmly offered the actor a hug, creating a comforting and emotional moment in the video.
The actor’s latest film, We Live In Time, directed by acclaimed filmmaker John Crowley, promises a touching exploration of love, loss, and the enduring power of human connection. Also featuring Florence Pugh, the film released on October 18.
